Does 1:12 Scale Furniture Fit Barbie? 1:12 vs 1:6 Explained
Share
Quick answer: no. Standard Barbie-size fashion dolls are generally around 1:6 scale, while Pretty Miniatures specialises in 1:12 scale dolls house furniture and accessories. A 1:12 piece is therefore much too small for a Barbie-size doll.
The numbers can look similar when you are new to miniatures, but the physical difference is substantial. This guide explains 1:12 versus 1:6 and how to check the scale before ordering furniture.
What is the difference between 1:12 and 1:6 scale?
Scale is a ratio between the miniature and the real-life object it represents.
- 1:12 scale means the miniature is one twelfth of full size.
- 1:6 scale means the miniature is one sixth of full size.
Because one sixth is twice as large as one twelfth, a 1:6 item is approximately twice the linear size of the equivalent 1:12 item. That difference affects beds, chairs, sofas, tables, accessories and the dolls themselves.

What scale is Barbie furniture?
Barbie and similar fashion dolls are commonly treated as approximately 1:6 scale. A standard fashion doll is roughly twice the height of a typical adult figure used in a traditional 1:12 dolls house.
That means a 1:12 sofa, bed or chair will look undersized beside a Barbie-size doll. Likewise, 1:6 furniture will usually be far too large for a 1:12 dolls house room.
Will Pretty Miniatures furniture fit Barbie dolls?
No. Pretty Miniatures products are designed for 1:12 scale dolls houses and miniature displays. They are not designed for Barbie-size or other 1:6 fashion dolls.
Our product pages show dimensions in millimetres and inches so you can compare the actual measurements with your house, room or existing furniture before ordering.
How can I check the scale of my dolls house?
If you do not know the scale of your house, do not rely on appearance alone. Measure the inside of the room, door openings and any furniture that already looks correctly proportioned.
Traditional 1:12 dolls house rooms and furniture are much smaller than fashion-doll rooms. If the house is designed around a doll approximately 29–30 cm tall, it is much more likely to be a fashion-doll scale rather than 1:12.
Our dolls house measuring guide explains how to record room dimensions and compare them with product measurements.
Do all dolls houses use the same scale?
No. Dolls houses and miniature displays can be made in several scales, including 1:6, 1:12, 1:16, 1:18, 1:24 and smaller. The description “dolls house furniture” does not by itself guarantee that two products will work together.
Always check the stated scale and the actual measurements, especially when combining furniture from different manufacturers or furnishing an older, handmade or inherited dolls house.
What is 1:12 scale suitable for?
1:12 is widely used for detailed dolls house interiors and collector miniatures. It offers enough size for realistic furniture, fabrics, accessories and decorative details while still allowing a complete furnished house to remain compact.
Pretty Miniatures focuses on modern 1:12 scale furniture and accessories for collectors aged 14+, including bedroom furniture, living room miniatures, kitchen and dining pieces, bathroom furniture and nursery and children’s room miniatures.
Check before you buy
If you are buying for someone else, particularly for a child’s dolls house, confirm the scale before ordering. A house intended for a large fashion doll may look like a dolls house in photographs but still require furniture roughly twice the size of 1:12 pieces.
When in doubt, compare the measurements on the product page with the room and the doll that will use it. You can also browse the full Pretty Miniatures 1:12 scale range once you know that 1:12 is the correct scale for your project.
